Top Tribune executives said to be on the way out in house-cleaning

Some of Jack Griffin’s top executive hires will soon follow him out the door at Tribune Publishing. Griffin’s ouster, which I was able to break the news of one week ago (POLITICO: “Jack Griffin Out at Tribune”), turns out to be just the beginning of new Tribune Chairman Michael Ferro’s housecleaning.
Confidential sources tell me one or more of the corporate executives Griffin hired to transform Tribune Publishing will lose their jobs, and that changes in the configuration of publishers running Tribune’s nine metro properties are on tap, too.(...)



Leadership shuffle at Tribune as Ferro takes the reins

Tribune Publishing on Wednesday announced a major shakeup in its strategy for newspapers it owns around the country, including big changes in the company's senior management ranks.
As part of the revamp, editors in chief at publications like The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune and The Baltimore Sun will serve jointly as their newspaper's publishers, assuming additional responsibilities on the business side.
Tim Ryan, publisher of the Los Angeles Times since September, has been promoted to the new role of president of publishing for Tribune's full portfolio. He will report to new CEO Justin Dearborn, who replaced Jack Griffin last month as Griffin exited the company following months of turmoil under his watch.
Denise Warren, a high-profile former New York Times executive recruited by Griffin 10 months ago to oversee Tribune's digital strategy, is leaving the company.(...)




Genius hires former Gawker editor to spearhead news division

Genius has hired former Gawker editor Leah Finnegan as managing news editor, the annotation start-up announced today. Hiring Finnegan — a former features editor at Gawker who most recently served as interim executive editor at Cosmopolitan.com — is part of a renewed push by Genius into general news content.
