Panama’s public prosecutor raided the offices of Mossack Fonseca, the
law firm whose offshore tax haven leaks have focused scrutiny on world
leaders from Europe to Asia, the Panamanian newspaper La Prensa reported.
A newly created prosecutor specializing in organized crime and an special unit for offenses involving money laundering and the financing of terrorism carried out an inspection Tuesday of the main offices of the firm Mossack Fonseca, La Prensa said.
Personnel from the firm weren’t cooperating with the prosecutor and were escorted to another Mossack Fonseca office next door, the paper said, citing the prosecutor’s office.
“They performed judicial diligence with the purpose of obtaining documentation related to information published in news articles that establishes the possible use of the law firm in illicit activities,” the public prosecutor’s office said in a statement, according to La Pensa.
