5 Dallas Officers Killed, 7 Injured in Ambush Shootings

Jul 8, 2016, 10:10 AM ET

Five Dallas law enforcement officers were killed and seven more injured late Thursday in an ambush by at least two gunmen, one of whom told police he was angry about recent fatal shootings of black men by police elsewhere in the United States and that he wanted to kill white people, especially police officers.

Two civilians were also injured in the shootings, which happened as people demonstrated in downtown Dallas after the shooting deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, black men killed by police in Louisiana and in Minnesota this week.

Bullet bounces off armored vest of gunman...

  • The terrifying footage shows a cop creep up on one of the Dallas shooters
  • He tries to take him by surprise with a bullet but the killer seems unharmed
  • The gunman then rushes the officer, shooting him in the back
  • He then then executes him at point-blank range with as many as four shots
  • A witness said the killer looked like he was carrying an AR-15 assault rifle
  • And had so many magazines 'they were falling out of his pockets'

A gunman, believed to be the same shooter, then engaged in a violent, three-hour standoff with SWAT officers, police said. Brown said the attacker was killed when police sent an explosive device attached to a robot to where the suspect was holed up and detonated it, killing him.
