This is the first in a
series of commentaries from the newest service of MGN Online, America’s Premier Resource for Still and Animated Graphics serving
the news media since 1982. My name is Jeff
Wald and for most of my career I have worked in TV News as a writer, producer,
executive producer and news director.
About two years ago, Gill Davis, the President and CEO of MGN Online,
talked about the future of news dissemination and we found ourselves on
parallel paths. We both came to the
conclusion that people’s habits were changing – particularly younger people. They were looking for additional ways to get
their news. A paradigm shift was
beginning. People wanted to know what is
going on in the world right now and right on their new smartphones and
tablets. We began to create MobileGenerated News.
MoGN, as
we now call for short, it is a result of two years of brainstorming and
planning. It includes the first mobileApp designed for people to share video of news events as they happen with TV
stations and other organizations run by professional journalists. We worked with App developers to create a
simple App so that potential Citizen Journalists would be encouraged to
contribute breaking news and events that established news organizations might
ignore or overlook.
Next
time, we'll talk more about MoGN's continuing development.
