Jobs and careers were very much on the minds of students at Cal Lutheran University this past week. The University sponsored a speaker panel to talk about where and what jobs will be available for the next generation of Communications Majors. Courses at Cal Lutheran are offered in Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising.
Panel Members were Mari Escamilla, Hispanic Media Manager and Account Executive at Marketing Maven; Kevin Holt, Crisis Services Coordinator at The Trevor Project; Dustin Luther, Director of Engagement, Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corporation and me. With the paradigm shift to Social Media, the recovering economy and the new and constantly changing technology, we all agreed that students can find careers through internships because they allow them to learn the business from the inside. When a job opens up they will be considered first before a company looks outside for entry level help. All of us on the panel enjoyed talking about how we got started on our career paths.
Future careers will be challenging and many in the Communications area will involve Social Media and New Technology. The students asked excellent questions and we did our best to predict the future. With every new generation comes exciting opportunities!
I had the opportunity to talk about Mobile Generated News® and explain how our App connects our client news organizations with their audience. We want news consumers to be able to interact with local media for free. We believe that contributing to the news cycle is essential to our democracy. Most often, viewers do not get to control what they see on the news. Now, the MoGN App enables news enthusiasts to have a say in the content they see on their televisions, web sites and newspapers. We are trying to enhance the human experience when it comes to news. Download the Mobile Generated News App and become a Citizen Journalist! If you are out and about and see news happening, send in your Breaking News. If you have a story or opinion that’s worth sharing, record it and send it in as well!
Search for Mobile Generated News in the Apple App Store. And, you will see all of our related affiliate Apps.
