I usually reserve this space for the latest in News and Technology, however, memories of my youth have taken over ̶ at least for today!
Even though “Hot Dog on a Stick” originated in the City of Santa Monica, where I was born, the brand expanded to malls worldwide. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this past February. No more unhealthy corn coated hot dogs and teenage girls in colorful short uniforms. Another childhood memory destroyed along with the Wonder Bread factory in Beverly Hills and the train from downtown Los Angeles to the beach.
Today a stunning announcement: Hot Dog on a Stick has been purchased from bankruptcy by a portfolio company of a Los Angeles private equity firm!
Although Interstate Bakeries ended production of Wonder Bread seven years ago in Southern California (Beverly Hills was closed years earlier) Wonder Bread and other Hostess Brands products, including Twinkies, returned in September, 2009. And, where the tracks and right of ways of the old Southern Pacific Railway once were is a new Metro Rail Gold line taking shape to bring passengers from downtown L.A. to the Pacific Ocean.

Perhaps there is hope for keeping childhood memories alive and updating old brands and experiences into the future!
