OMG! My Passwords Have Been Stolen by Russian Hackers

Greetings from Mobile Generated News® MoGN!

One of the major news stories today is that Russian hackers have allegedly stolen more than a billion online user names and passwords, including more than 500 million email addresses.

They are believed to be using the data to spam Internet users. Apparently no one knows ‒ yet ‒ which websites the Russians compromised, but given the quantity of the stolen data, there's a chance you may have been affected.

What to do?

Change your passwords! Start with your most important accounts such as your bank, credit card, email and change them. They should all be different. Use upper case and lower case letters, some numbers and DON’T use words that can be found in the dictionary.

If you don’t subscribe to a legitimate credit monitoring service, do so. Credit bureaus themselves have them. If you decide not to take this advice, monitor each individual account on a regular basis.

Obtain a copy of your credit report. If you find that there is unusual activity, notify the three major credit reporting agencies, Trans Union, Experian and Equifax and make sure they freeze your credit report and immediately dispute any errors.

We are trying to enhance the human experience when it comes to news.
