Pope Francis Suggests Donald Trump Is ‘Not Christian’

Pope Francis Suggests Donald Trump Is ‘Not Christian’NEW YORK TIMES
ABOARD THE PAPAL AIRLINER — Inserting himself into the Republican presidential race, Pope Francis on Wednesday suggested that Donald J. Trump “is not Christian” because of the harshness of his campaign promises to deport more immigrants and force Mexico to pay for a wall along the border.
“A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian,” Francis said when a reporter asked him about Mr. Trump on the papal airliner as he returned to Rome after his six-day visit to Mexico.

The Potential for the Most Liberal Supreme Court in Decades
NEW YORK TIMES
It should be no surprise that Justice Antonin Scalia’s death
has led to a political fight. His replacement on the court could
lead to a historic change in the court’s balance of power.
There are two ways to think about the change. One is to compare Justice Scalia with the person President Obama nominates for his spot. The second is to think about how a new justice might shift the court’s overall balance of power. Any nominee more liberal than Justice Anthony Kennedy would make the justice at the center of the court more liberal than in nearly 50 years.

Supreme Court Nominee Could Reshape American Life

NYT
WASHINGTON — There is a reason Republican senators are so adamant in their refusal to let President Obama appoint a successor to Justice Antonin Scalia, a towering figure in conservative jurisprudence. An Obama appointment would be the most consequential ideological shift on the court since 1991, creating a liberal majority that would almost certainly reshape American law and American life.
