Citizen Journalists: The Time Has Come Part 2

Greetings from Mobile Generated News® MoGN!

The impact of Citizen Journalists is an example of the paradigm shift in how technology has changed how news consumers behave.

The rise of CJ’s has contributed to the nature of news we view or read, questioned the authority of Professional Journalists and upended the advertising model for traditional newspapers and TV News broadcasts.

A bigger concern to me is what I call “Selective Aggregation.”  Tribune Company recently showcased their new technology which is a customized radio news broadcast.  Basically any consumer can customize their own newscast to include only their individual daily interests.  This to me is far more dangerous than Citizen Journalism.  If people use this as their only source of news, they certainly will miss events and developments that may significantly impact their lives.  As a TV News Director and  College Professor, I am concerned that the current and next generation of news consumers need to source several traditional and non-traditional news outlets to get the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

At Mobile Generated News®, we want news consumers to be able to interact with local media for free. We believe that contributing to the news cycle is essential to our democracy.
