Newest Cell Phone Plans Are All Alike

Greetings from Mobile Generated News® MoGN!

Sprint has a new CEO in charge and they just announced a new, more competitive priced plan that starts this Friday. Similar to the other three major cell providers, it is aimed at families of four or more who use a great deal of data.

The price is $160 a month with unlimited talk and text and the four users can share 20 gigabytes of data. For the first time that I am aware, Sprint will pay up to $350 in early-termination fees for new customers who leave their current carriers for Sprint before October.

As I mentioned in a prior post, I recently switched to T-Mobile because of coverage issues where I live. T-Mobile’s Simple Choice Plan is nearly the same as Sprint’s new plan. For the same amount of data their price for a family of four is $180 monthly. There are no contracts and they will pay any termination fees incurred by your switch from other providers.

AT&T Mobile Share Plan will cost a family of four with non-contract phones sharing 20 gigabytes of data for $210.

Verizon's More Everything plan is more like AT&T's Mobile Share and the Sprint Family Share Pack. They don’t offer a family plan for four but charge $40 per line plus data they plan to share, ranging from 250 MB for $15 per month to 100 GB for $750. As you can see, data usage, particularly on Verizon, can get pretty pricey.

Choose your carrier based on coverage and speed if price is no object. Your cell phone won’t serve you well if you frequent an area where coverage is sparse.

Sprint reportedly "near" purchasing T-Mobile

Greetings from Mobile Generated News® MoGN!

Full Disclosure: I have been a Sprint mobile customer for over 10-years.  I have been relatively happy with the service but have noticed that the data speed continues to slow and the promises of the new NOW network continue to just be promises.  My home coverage area, unfortunately, is right in the middle of a lull.  I live in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and shouldn’t be experiencing any coverage issues at all.

Sprint people have told me that the new network will solve the problem and please be patient.  I have been patient for nearly 2-years now.

So last month, I finally switched to t-mobile.  Their network – at least in the areas that I frequent – works flawlessly.  The data is fast and the sound quality reminds me of the old Sprint claim that you can’t hear a pin drop!

So what did I hear this week?

Sprint is close to an agreement to acquire t-mobile for billions!

I can only hope they keep the t-mobile portion of their cellular network so that I don’t have to make yet another carrier change.

I am also concerned about AT&T purchasing DirecTV for billions of dollars.  I have been a long time customer of DirecTV with no complaints with the service except the monthly bill keeps rising!

What do you think about these huge Telecom mergers and acquisitions?

Opinions and commentary are essential to the news cycle. If you have an opinion about the consolidation of these companies, you can record it and send it into the Mobile Generated News App. Local news stations can select from dozens of opinions when forming the best and most complete news story possible.
