Traditional learning VS Technology

Welcome back to Mobile Generated News®
Do all students learn the same way? With the advances in technology, are kids more accustomed to teaching themselves as opposed to being taught? Are teachers keeping up with new technology as it comes out? These are all the questions I ask myself on a daily basis. And, believe it or not, this topic comes up very often in my everyday life.
My mother is a librarian at an Elementary School and just this year, her job was threatened by…technology. iPads to be exact. I for one,  started in my early teens, utilizing technology and have adapted the way I do things to work with technology. On the other hand, I also grew up with a mom who valued literature and read books to me and my siblings on a regular basis. I love getting lost in a story and flipping the pages to read what’s next…as you can imagine, I’m a bit torn on this subject.
Do people really think that technology can replace books? Can you replace the feeling of turning those crisp new pages or the smell of a used book that was passed down to you? As much as I’d like to believe the answer to this is “No”, the odds are against me...
My love for books will never change, but will that be true for Generation Next? Technology can never replace the feeling a child gets when being read a story.  Stories provide a sense of imagination, thinking outside of the box, exploring the unknown, and looking forward.  However, technology introduces other avenues that are arguably more effective in brain development and promoting creativity.
If kids are given a tool that promotes advanced thinking at an early age, imagine what life would be like for them. With all the Applications that come out daily, which ones are really here to help develop our knowledge of this world around us? There are plenty of “Fun” apps available today, but what about the apps that focus on facts and content created by the user, FOR the user? Mobile Generated News® is just that. With all of the tools we have today, why not utilize them? Let's help the Next Generation by feeding their hunger for knowledge.
Until next time..
