The age of .anything will arrive shortly

Greetings from Mobile Generated News® MoGN!

In less than two weeks, roughly 1,000 new generic top-level domain names (gTLDs) will be up for grabs. The list of last few characters of an Internet address such as the “com” in http://mognapp.blogspot.com, or gTLD for short, has been relatively short.

Internet users can currently choose from a list of 22, including .com, .net, .org, .info, and .biz. On February 4, that list will expand to over 1,000 gTLDs, ranging from .app to .love to .yoga.

Some people are arguing that the addition will help all people (especially entrepreneurs) and businesses (especially small ones) as there will be more addresses to choose from when creating a site.

However, others argue that the addition of all of the gTLDs will not really matter as people rarely fill in full domain names. People also argue that due to new apps and technology, the Web is dead. Also, more often than not, people will create short URL’s with services like bit.ly.

Click here for a neat infographic about the new gTLDs.

It will be interesting to watch how the world reacts to the change. I have a feeling the new gTLDs will not catch on. I’m more excited to see how the world reacts to our idea that hopes to change how our customers interact with the news world. At Mobile Generated News®, we want our news viewers to interact with local media. We believe that contributing to the news cycle is essential to our democracy. Most often, viewers do not get to control what they see on the news. Now, the MoGN App enables news enthusiasts to have a say in the content they see on their televisions, web sites and newspapers. We are trying to enhance the human experience when it comes to news.  Download the Mobile Generated News App and become a Citizen Journalist!  If you are out and about and see news happening, send in your Breaking News.  If you have a story or opinion that’s worth sharing, record it and send it in as well!
