There may have been a surplus
of guacamole and chips at your Super Bowl party, but the amount of viewers was
down from last year’s big game.
Early Nielsen
data for Super Bowl
XLVIII suggests that nearly 97 million viewers tuned in to Fox to watch the
Seattle Seahawks' lopsided victory over the Denver Broncos. By comparison, last
year's game aired on CBS and received 108.4 million views. The Game received a
34.4 rating in the 18-49 year-old demographic.
The top-rated market for Super
Bowl XLVIII was Kansas City with a 58.1 rating.
Twitter reported that almost 25
million people Tweeted during the game. That number is up from 24.1 million
last year. People were fascinated by the #EsuranceSave30 ad that said the
company saved $1.5 million by airing after the Super Bowl and promised to give
the money it saved to a viewer that Tweeted about the ad. You can view the
ad here.
