Wal-Mart employees and
sympathizers began a protest movement that has spread to 15-cities across the
nation. They are upset because they
claim that many of Wal-Mart’s 1.3 – million employees are classified as part-time workers averaging
$8.80/hour. They also claim that they do
not receive medical or dental benefits.
A Wal-Mart spokesperson says that many of those protesting are
union activists and professional protesters.
Last week we talked about
Fast Food workers protesting over comparable low wages.
Will similar protests
continue with employees of other large industries and corporations?
What do you think? Do you
believe that protests like these indicate the disparity in the United States
between the haves and the have nots? I
look forward to your comments and questions.
