Athletes should fight against the new strategy for Malibu’s Juvenile Probation Center

Greetings from Mobile Generated News® MoGN!

Camp Kilpatrick, a juvenile probation center in Malibu, has always been known for its sports teams that compete against both public and private schools in the Los Angeles area.

As seen in the 2006 film, Gridiron Gang, the values learned from competing on a competitive sports team keep adolescents that have made some bad decisions from making the same mistakes twice.

The state plans to tear down the facility that has been competing in the California Interscholastic Federation for the past 20 years. The goal is to create a new environment build on education, counseling, and vocational training.

I would urge everyone to sign a petition created by an athlete that competed against Kilpatrick this year. I not only believe that the lessons learned on the field or in the gym can truly shape an adolescent, but also know, from first-hand experience, that playing against these athletes is a learning lesson in and of itself. I remember playing football against Kilpatrick and seeing the players’ girlfriends and sometimes wives pushing strollers along the sideline. Everyone deserves a second chance and competitive sports can be that outlet.
